RULES OF THUMB

  • lamps with 3 way switches give you a wide range of illumination
  • use dimmers to create variable light
  • keep lamps proportional to the table they are sitting on
  • the bottom of the lamp shade should be at eye level when you are seated

For a well designed interior lamps should be considered for decorative appeal and adequate illumination.  They will add charm, warmth and intimacy that can set the tone of a room.  Lamp lighting combined with general lighting transforms a space into a seamless combination of functionality and style and creates a visually dynamic space.  The beautiful stone lamps above are available through Egg & Dart in the Denver Design Center.

For a great first impression in your entry place lamps on a beautiful and elegant console.  They will illuminate the space and welcome guests.

Lighting from lamps can highlight architectural features and showcase objects (accent lighting) like sculptures and art.  White marble and gold lamp from HoffMiller Showroom in Denver Design Deistrict.

LIGHTING FORMULA

The formula to calculate how much light a room needs: room length x room width x 1.5 = wattage   EXAMPLE:  18′ x 12″ x 1.5 = 324 watts needed to light an 18 x 12 room.  You can divide the lighting up.  Two lamps at 150 watts and one lamp at 60 watts would be adequate.
